Fallon Clinic Foundation is proud to support early literacy through its designated Reach Out and Read Fund. The Fund is supported largely by donations from Fallon Clinic employees, friends, generous community members and corporate donors. The donations are collected throughout the year and are currently distributed on an annual basis to the five Fallon Clinic pediatrics sites that have been actively participating in this national program for the last few years. These pediatric sites are then able to buy more books to give away to children and families that fall into the Reach Out and Read target age group.
Through Fallon Clinic pediatricians and their staff, the Reach Out and Read program provides new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Doctors and nurses know that growing up healthy means growing up with books. The ROR program provides the tools to help promote children’s developmental skills and later school success. The targeted age group of the children being read to is six months to five years old. In addition to the funding, Fallon Clinic and Fallon Clinic Foundation is proud to provide qualified volunteers to this program who help organize the books and read to groups of children during pre-scheduled reading times.
