WORCESTER, Mass., October 27, 2005 — The Charlton Public Library has a patron donor in Fallon Clinic Foundation, a Worcester-based non-profit whose mission is to promote community health and welfare through public education, research, higher education and leadership. The Foundation has donated $2,500 to the library’s “Make Our Treasure Shine” capital campaign, which is helping fund a $6.8 million renovation and expansion project.

“The Make Our Treasure Shine campaign is a wonderful example of what can happen when local resources pull together and commit themselves to a project,” said Marcia M. Parsons, library director. “We’ve raised approximately $915,000 to date through the generous support of organizations such as Fallon Clinic Foundation as well as individual area residents.”

When the project is complete, slated for 2007, the library will have gone from 1,100 to 22,800 square feet. The new space will include a spacious children’s wing, an enlarged local history collection, and both quiet reading areas and a community meeting room with seating for 150. In addition, project architects will carefully preserve the architectural details of the existing 100-year-old building, which formerly housed town offices and police dispatch services.

“Fallon Clinic Foundation is delighted to make this contribution to the Charlton Public Library,” said Dr. Baltej S. Maini, president of Fallon Clinic Foundation and Fallon Clinic, which has offices in town at 20 Southbridge Road. “This is an extremely important educational endeavor for Charlton, and Fallon Clinic Foundation and Fallon Clinic want the community to know that we are a supportive and committed neighbor.”

Since its inception in 1988, Fallon Clinic Foundation has engaged in fundraising efforts to support charitable, educational and research programs in Worcester County and beyond. The Foundation conducts programs in health living and disease prevention as well as human health and disease research, and it funds scholarships and training for health care professionals. Most recently, the Foundation, along with Fallon Clinic and its employees, raised $90,000 to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.
