WORCESTER, Mass., November 30, 2006 — Fallon Clinic received the Junior
Achievement of Central Massachusetts Gold Key Award for “Implementing
Extraordinary Volunteer Recruitment Programs” at the Goddard Elementary School
of Science and Technology in Worcester. Fallon Clinic and Fallon Clinic Foundation
have teamed up with Junior Achievement to provide low-income Worcester Public School
students with classroom volunteers and other benefits during the 2006-2007 academic
school year.
"Fallon Clinic initiated a model partnership with Junior Achievement and the
Goddard Elementary School this year," said Deb Hopkins, Executive Director
of Junior Achievement. "Fallon Clinic and Fallon Clinic Foundation provided
physician and executive-level volunteers, a grant, and a computer lab. This is an
unusual effort for a first-year partnership. The caliber and commitment of Fallon
Clinic's volunteer teaching team is outstanding."
A Junior Achievement of Central Massachusetts Board Committee charged with strengthening
corporate partnerships chooses the Gold Key Award recipients. Approximately 6 to
10 corporations receive the award each year.
“Fallon Clinic’s support of Junior Achievement at the Goddard Elementary
School strongly impacts our ability to lift the performance of our students,”
said Dr. James Caradonio, Worcester Public School Superintendent. “We appreciate
their enthusiastic efforts at the school.”
In partnership with business, local organizations, and educators, Junior Achievement
and volunteers from local corporations bring the real world to students, teaching
basic business concepts and the value of staying in school. Volunteers help students
of all backgrounds and abilities to understand and reach their full potential.
Dr. Stephen Pezzella, Acting President of Fallon Clinic and Fallon Clinic Foundation
said, “We are proud to support the efforts of Junior Achievement and the Worcester
Public School system to help further the skills of students at the Goddard Elementary
School of Science and Technology. Working together, we can ensure a successful future
for these deserving students.”
